About the Exhibition

MOTHER explores contemporary ideas of motherhood from a diversity of perspectives through the medium of photography. MOTHER runs concurrently with the exhibition LAUREL NAKADATE: MOTHER LINE at Tephra ICA in Reston, VA, which features two bodies of Nakadate’s work, Relations and The Kingdom. MOTHER includes a selection of relevant artists’ books and publications from Mason’s Special Collection Research Center, Fenwick Library, and Provisions Library.

MOTHER is the third iteration of this exhibition co-organized by Nakadate, previous versions of which were shown at Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects, New York, in 2018 and at the University of New Mexico Art Museum in 2020.
