Gallery Reception: Migratory Aesthetics

  • Gillespie Gallery of Art, Art and Design Building 4515 Patriot Circle Fairfax, VA, 22030 United States (map)

About the Exhibition

This exhibition displays the work of 12 contemporary Latin American artists whose work has been influenced by personal experiences of migration. Their artworks reject borders but share common experiences of departure, discovery, abandonment, uprooting, rupture, pilgrimage, and reconstruction. These deterritorialized artists generate mestizo identities and create new definitions of their environment through their migratory aesthetics. The exhibition leads viewers through these transitional stages to reflect on the realities of migratory transformation.
