ARTIST STATEMENT: History is such a vast expanse; even human records go back thousands of years. And the older and more foreign the history, the more time forgets the details. I want to revisit places and events that nature has reclaimed and buried long ago. My piece tells the tale that glimpses into the lives of ancient Egyptians during a very drastic ruler’s reign. Egyptian history, at least for me, was just a brief lesson learned in grade school. I wanted to learn more about art and culture while in university, and I learned more about their culture from twenty minutes of that class than I had as a ten-year-old. Spreading just a fraction of what I learned to others is important to me, and I expressed that in my artwork here. I incorporate humor as a gateway into the past. By expressing these events in human history with animation and a humorous twist, I communicate complicated topics and cultures of the time in a more personal manner than a textbook ever could hope to do.
