i am here
i am black. i am female. i am not always seen or heard by others.
but i am here.
—Angela Terry
I started a daily meditation practice. And while I still struggle with being present and grounded, my daily practice gives me space to breathe, observe my thoughts, and ground myself before the day commences.

Radical Honesty
For a long time, peace escaped me.
Booked and busy was the status quo,
And in much needed moments of rest, productivity was a friend.
How do you act with intention?
How do you participate mindfully?
How do you not do too much, when so much is expected of you?
For the longest time, I could not answer these questions.
I didn’t have the time to answer these questions.
On a crisp winter night, I took a chance.
A chance to sit and breathe. Nothing happened, and it was blissful.
I found silence, clarity, and a space to observe.
Every day, I take a moment:
A sacred part of starting my day,
And a tranquil way to close my evenings.
I take a moment, and if I want more, I take many moments.
Because I can, and because I am worth it. I deserve it.
It is a right for me.
Grounding and calming.
Centering, and ethereal.
I wish my ancestors had this chance.
I long for my elders to take this chance.
I will always allow my descendants to have this chance with me.
Peace and I are good now.
I take my chances and my moments to be aware, observe, and breathe.
And I find myself amongst the solitude.
