BFA Painting

ARTIST STATEMENT: My work encompasses the physical and emotional impact of nature in my life. I have always had a deep appreciation for animals and often tried to immerse myself within the environment. Currently, my work focuses on combining the three-dimensional and two-dimensional boundaries through color and texture. I lean toward vast color changes, textures, and uneven work. I want my pieces to push and pull each other, making neither the center nor the background.

My piece, Horse and Person is a representation of an ecological experience. I have created the horse sculpture out of biodegradable materials: wood, metal, and clay, all of which can be returned to nature. The horse holds a strong physical presence, being highly textured and white it stands in front the person. The horse’s negative space was created to bring the painting forward and represent the interaction between people with horses. The painting is made of both biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials: wood, canvas, and paint. The color pallet was created by studying the colors found in a horse’ environment. The painting is asymmetrical and holds a wide range of colors that move rapidly, a representation of the impacts of nature on human emotion. Overall, Horse and Person highlights the emotional connection between beings.
