ARTIST STATEMENT: I am an illustrator who has a focus on surrealism and character design. I try to find ways to combine art with other disciplines, and in this case, with chemistry. It is not until middle or high school when the average American student is offloaded with chemical vocabulary and terms. It is best to have kids and even young adults learn to recognize some of the most common elements through memorable visuals. With some research, I decided to design whimsical, tangible characters that I feel best represents and visualizes the elements. The characters are whimsical and amorphous. I designed them based on their physical properties and their role in our bodies or in industries.
