ARTIST STATEMENT: The concept of my work is to use illustration and sequential art as a medium to navigate the legacies both of times and aesthetics from before I was born, and the sociopolitical issues that defined the time I have grown up in. Retrofuturism is a movement that allows us to explore lost futures in showing what the dreams and fears of society were in their respective decades. In The Daughter Nucleus the choice of late 1970s and early 1980s retrofuturism, drawing inspiration from science fiction at the time concerned with nuclear warfare and environmental and cultural destruction gives me a space to reflect on the environmental destruction and military expansion in our own time.
