ARTIST STATEMENT: A Scene of the Wild is a mixed media work out that explores what I see and notice about nature. I created human eyes using digital photo manipulation and plastic bags. The photos included are of the environment, including plants and pollution. I modified these images to appear psychedelic and distorted. I used cut up plastic bags for the white of the eye.

This work is about perception and how we see what we want to see. So, while in nature, we focus on the starburst, the light energy that comes through the trees, but we ignore the trash that is around us.

The weather is another aspect of nature that I considered in making of this work. I took images during certain weather conditions. For instance, I waited for a very rainy day to get images of water droplets that gathered on the edge of the garage door. I wanted to experiment with different views of nature.

These culminations of images of nature express how I see the world as an artist. I see the world differently than others. At times, I have difficulty speaking because of my disability. I find that communicating visually is easier. I use my art to show how I think.
